A walk: sometimes that’s all you need.
#28. Ballito Boardwalk
📍Ballito, KZN.
One last stop in the North before we keep it moving. This time, we sent the funcle (fun uncle) on assignment and he delivered!
🥳Fun factor: sand art, ocean views, light breeze and, if you time it right, dolphin spotting! What’s not to like?
🏋🏾♀️Fitness level: for all of us. It’s a 70min walk at a leisurely pace if you’re going to walk the whole boardwalk. If you’re keen for more intensity, run it or lengthen it by continuing to Salt Rock.
👧🏾 Suitability for Kids: absolutely. Also great for the very grown grown ups. The parents (over 70 years old) love this walk.
💸Cost: Another freebie. Mahala!
🤩 What we loved most:
– The dolphin spotting! Apparently this stretch of coast is often visited by a pod of about 200 dolphins so it’s common spot them on a walk. In fact, in the right season, you may spot a Humpback or Southern Right whale too.
– There are quite a few rock pools along this walk that the kids will love during low tide. They ran up and down, in and out of the rock pools thoroughly exhausting themselves (an early night for #funcle – yes!)
In short: Light and lovely. It’s a great sight (and feeling) being amongst people jogging, walking, pushing prams and working their walking sticks along this long stretch. Another Durban treat 👌🏽
