📍Ballito/Salt Rock
We are thrilled to be able to include the beach in our adventures again, so today we took to the North Coast for a trail run over boulders and rock formations that had our heart singing with joy 🎵
🥳Fun factor: winding along the beach, this is a 5km trail that takes you past & over rock formations, platforms, lovely stretches of beach and even some tidal pools. It felt so good to be out – families, joggers, hikers and walkers all basking in nature’s glory.
🏋🏾‍♀️Fitness level: for everyone. Take it as fast or slow as you want. 5km one way (get someone to fetch you) or 10km return.
👧🏾 Suitability for kids: without a doubt, yes – but it may take some work convincing them to not stop at the tidal pool.
đź’¸Cost: free!
🤩 What we loved most:
– Definitely the views! They are every bit worthy of the reviews we’ve read. It’s the kind of backdrop you wish you could frame.
– We did it the route in reverse starting from salt rock and ending in ballito. We discovered 2 beaches and 2 pathways/trails we don’t know, and it was great to jog past Thomson’s tidal pool and hole in the wall that we previously featured.
🚦What you need to know: definitely advisable to go in low tide. Also note that there are a few places were the rocks seem impenetrable but just forge ahead – you’re still on track! If you aren’t sure, you can detour along the sand towards the road, and come back onto the trail when you can see the path.
In short: a lovely 5km run/walk/hike made interesting by the many boulders and rock formations, and with spectacularly beautiful views.
