or the amateur naturalist: fauna and flora, wozani nizobona 🍃
📍Harold Johnson Nature Reserve, Stanger.
A great introduction for those new to exploring outdoors, this 11ha nature reserve has much to take in at a leisurely pace in terms of fauna, flora, wildlife, bird life and 114 species of butterflies!
🥳Fun factor: one that will be enjoyed by beginners more than intermediate or advanced walkers/hikers. It’s light, vast and peaceful. Bring a picnic to enjoy halfway.
🏋🏾♀️Fitness level: beginner to intermediate.
👧🏾 Suitability for kids: yebo!
💸Cost: R10 adults, R5 children.
🤩 What we loved most:
– The traditional herb route showcases a variety of plants/trees that are used in traditional medicines. Plants are labeled on the route and you can get a booklet from the office that delves into more details about how & why they are used. It’s a light 30min leisurely walk that perfect for beginners. Although we didn’t spot any wildlife on our walk, longer routes are available where you may be luckier.
– There are simple but clean picnic sites and camping sites available so bring a snack pack to enjoy en route.
In short: bush, butterflies, birds, buck – much to see if you’re in luck 🦋
100 outdoor activities in 100 days! We’ve hit 60 – it’s a small victory 😆
Get outside. Colour outdoors 🤸🏾♀️☀️😆
