📍Spirit of Adventure, Shongweni
Trading romance for an adrenaline rush, today we made our way to Shongweni to scale some walls – up, down, forward and backwards. First up – rock climbing 🧗🏽‍♀️
🥳Fun factor: we love that you have to be physically and mentally present to succeed in this one. The focus, the effort, and the reward all add to the enjoyment.
🏋🏾‍♀️Fitness level: requires that you’re able to support yourself own body weight, and needs some agility as you scale the wall.
👧🏾 Suitability for kids: yes! From 5years old it’s a go. She loved it!
đź’¸Cost: R200 for one activity or R300 for two (adults), and R100 per activity (kids)
🤩 What we loved most:
– Although it’s a relatively short climb, there’s still a sense of reward reaching the top. As with hiking, one of the highlights of rock climbing is the view at the top – in this case a panoramic picture of Shongweni dam. Abseiling was a fun free ride coming down.
🚦What you need to know: those who have climbed before may find the ascent a bit short and not as challenging as they may be used to. Shongweni offers a number of different climbing spots for differing levels of skill and many pro climbers visit here to train so ask about the longer/tougher climbs if you want a real challenge.
In short: the world is ours to explore, make it a point to find as many ways to do so as possible.
