#7. Umhlanga Forest Walk
📍 Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve
Mystical and soothing – that’s the vibe for #7.
🥳Fun factor: a really enjoyable walk through a forest that honestly feels like home to fairies. It’s lovely and light, crosses over a marsh & lands you right on a secluded beach.
🏋🏾♀️Fitness level: Beginner. It takes 20 – 30min max at a very leisurely pace. If you can walk around the shops then you can do this walk in your beach sandals.
👧🏾 Suitability for kids: a firm yes! The forest has a magical feel. They’ll love looking into the swamp to spot tadpoles & fish. And of course the beach is always a hit.
💸Cost: Mahala for everybody.
What we loved most:
– The magic of being able to explore the forest, a swamp and the ocean in the space of 15 minutes.
– It’s short enough to bring a whole picnic bag with you and free your inner beach bum 😎
– The beach is quiet & safe. Both children & adults can enjoy their time here for hours.
🚦 What you need to know: Umhlanga beach is known to be rougher and rockier than other Durban beaches so when the tide is high make sure the children are well supervised.
In summary: lovely & light, and all kinds of right!
